Let's make Medicare simple.

What is Medicare?

Medicare is federal health insurance primarily for people age 65 and older, as well as certain younger individuals with qualifying disabilities or medical conditions.

Choosing the right Medicare coverage can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. At Shum Insurance, we're here to help you understand your options and confidently choose a plan that fits your healthcare needs and budget.

Which Medicare Coverage is Right for You?

Most people begin here.

Original Medicare is the foundation of your Medicare coverage and includes:

 âœ“Part A (Hospital Insurance)

 âœ“Part B (Medical Insurance)

Most people enroll through the Social Security Administration when they become eligible for Medicare.

2 - Decide How You Want to Receive Your Medicare Benefits

After enrolling in Original Medicare, you'll choose one of these two paths:

Option A

Original Medicare + Medicare Supplement (Medigap) + Prescription Drug Plan

OR

Option B

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

You choose the option that best fits your healthcare needs, doctors, and budget.

Option A - If You Choose Original Medicare...

Many people also add a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan to help pay some of the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover, like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.

Most people also enroll in a Part D Prescription Drug Plan to help cover the cost of medications.

Your coverage could look like:

  • Part A

  • Part B

  • Medicare Supplement

  • Part D Prescription Drug Plan

Option B - If You Choose Medicare Advantage...

A Medicare Advantage plan coordinates the way you receive your Part A and Part B benefits through a private insurance company approved by Medicare.

Many plans also include:

✓ Prescription Drug Coverage

✓ Dental

✓ Vision

✓ Hearing

✓ Fitness Benefits

Your coverage could look like:

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C)

  • Often includes Part D and additional benefits

3 - Compare Plans

We'll compare plans based on:

✓ Your doctors

✓ Your prescriptions

✓ Your preferred pharmacies

✓ Your budget

✓ Your travel needs

✓ The benefits that matter most to you

No two people are exactly alike, so your Medicare plan shouldn't be either.
